What is vraag.amsterdam?

A sovereign Dutch AI assistant that helps every resident of Amsterdam ask questions to the municipality. Anonymous, in your own language, with direct source links. An initiative of Stichting vraag.amsterdam — not an official municipality of Amsterdam website.

For whom

For the Amsterdammer who has no DigiD, who can't read bureaucratic Dutch, who doesn't have time to scroll through 14 PDFs, or who simply prefers not to call. For anyone new to the city. For anyone who has lived here for 60 years. For anyone who finds the municipality a little complicated, which on a weekday is almost everyone.

How it works

  1. 1.You ask your question. In Dutch, English, Arabic, Turkish, Ukrainian. Voice or text, you decide.
  2. 2.We look up the answer. On amsterdam.nl, on rijksoverheid.nl, and in a manually curated set of sources we re-evaluate every quarter.
  3. 3.We show the answer with source links. Every answer points to the page it came from. No invented URLs, no invented facts.
  4. 4.When in doubt: a human. If the model is unsure, you get the 14020 number or a referral to the Social Service Desk.

What we are not

  • Not an official municipality of Amsterdam website. For certainty: amsterdam.nl.
  • Not a replacement for 14020. If you really want to talk to someone, call.
  • Not a ChatGPT clone. We don't send data to the US.
  • Not a consumer app. No account, no tracking, no ads.

Who's behind this

Stichting vraag.amsterdam, an independent non-profit funded by the SIDN fund and the Goldschmeding Foundation. We work with the municipality, but are not part of it. Our code, prompts and evaluations live on GitHub. Questions, criticism or contributions welcome at hallo@vraag.amsterdam.
